I Have a Few Questions for my Classic Car Insurance Quote

Auto insurance – for your cars or your trucks, is a type of protection you buy in advance of some kind of accident or event that might happen to whatever it is you drive or use to commute to and from the places you go.

This type of coverage is used to protect you financially against possible physical damages to any vehicles, or bodily injury, that result from an accident or some kind of malicious event. Auto insurance also covers you for any liability situations that could arise if you are responsible for the physical damages or injuries to another person, their automobile or property.

Another thing that’s great: auto or car insurance can cover you for theft, vandalism and other miscellaneous losses that could occur, as long as you have the included insurance coverage.

Absolutely, everybody is required to carry some form of auto insurance. Insurance protection is a government-mandated and regulated requirement when owning and operating a motor vehicle. When you go to register a vehicle, you MUST have car insurance or you will not be able to register the car.
There are many different types of car insurance protection you can get. Some of the more common auto insurance types include:

  • Liability protection – offers financial support to another person in the event of damages or injuries to their vehicle or property (themselves and their passengers) when/where you are responsible for the incident resulting in the loss or claim. It also provides coverage for you and your passengers in the event you or they are injured in an accident – regardless of who’s at fault.
  • Collision coverage – provides financial support when repairs or a replacement vehicle is required after your auto vehicle is damaged as a result of impact with another car, ditch, building and more.
  • Comprehensive – offers similar protection as that provided for in collision coverage and extends the coverage to losses or damage that are caused by anything out of your care and control. This might include, though is not limited to, impact with an animal, hail, theft, fire, vandalism and more.
  • Loss of use – provides coverage in the event you need to pay for expenses out of pocket when you don’t have access to your vehicle after an accident or event.
  • Rental car / Non-owned automobile coverage – provides coverage when you rent or borrow another vehicle because yours is not available.
  • All Perils
  • Specified Perils

Yes. Each vehicle owned requires its own insurance coverage to be specifically listed on a policy in order for insurance coverage to apply.
Yes your car insurance quote can cover other people in your family or household.

If there is a person with a valid drivers license – one that lives in your household and has full access to your vehicle -they should be added to the insurance policy as an secondary/occasional driver. However, anyone who holds a valid drivers license, assumes the position of the insured (i.e. ‘named insured’ or yourself) when you grant them permission to drive the vehicle. This then allows the policy to offer coverage in the event of an accident, the same way the policy would provide the coverage if you were driving.

You are required to list other drivers when you have a family member or spouse living in your household with a valid drivers license AND they will either have full access to your vehicle while home, or will be regularly driving the vehicle.
You do not always have to add a friend to your car insurance if they borrow your car as it depends on circumstances and the frequency with which your friend is driving.

If your friend is just going to borrow your vehicle for a day or two, maybe for a weekend etc, they don’t need to be added. So long as they carry a valid drivers license and have your permission to drive, they will be covered under the policy as if they were you. If you aren’t sure about whether your friend is using your car enough that you should add them to the policy, you should check with us.

The colour of a vehicle does not come into play on an insurance policy. If you drive a flashy red car, you won’t be paying more for insurance because of it. Your rates and premiums are not affected by the colour of your car.

The make and model, however, are details that contribute significantly to the calculation of rates and the generation of your premiums due. Even more, if your insurance coverage provides for a your vehicle replacement, the make and model play a very large role in determining the amount your insurance costs.

Excel Insurance Group brokers can help you navigate the different options here.

The VIN, or Vehicle Identification Number, is the serial number for your car. It is the record number for your vehicle in the a national database of all vehicles. This record contains a lot of interesting details about your car, including the year, make and model. Even more, the VIN record also includes the package option of each and every vehicle so your insurance broker can automatically know if your vehicle has air conditioning, the sport package and a sunroof, among other things.

To help ensure that your vehicle is on the policy, and not someone else’s, the VIN number is needed to get you an accurate car insurance quote. This also helps to match the registration to the insurance.

A ticket or conviction that is issued by A Police Officer or judgement, comes as a result of traffic law violations such as speeding, failing to stop at an intersections, drinking while under the influence (etc.). Car insurance quotes take into consideration your tickets and conviction in order to determine or assess the type of driver you are likely to be. In other words, when issuing your car insurance quote, we will look to the insurance companies with your record in order to determine how much “risk” is involved when giving you insurance, based on your driving history. If you have never had a conviction or a ticket, well, your auto insurance quote would be less because, based off of your record, you would be considered less likely to have another conviction or ticket. Photo radar tickets never affect your auto insurance rates either though we don’t recommend you speed!
The distance between your home and work helps the insurance company know how much you are driving on the road, if its in rush hour and whereabouts you are actually, typically, driving around. Essentially, the distance you travel between work and home on a typical day helps us to figure out how much ‘risk’ you face each day. We have to communicate that to the insurance companies on your behalf when getting you your car insurance quote. This also helps you to get a more fair rate for what you actually drive.
The number of annual kilometers also help to factor in the amount of “risk” involved in insuring you. Perhaps you do not drive to and from work each day, but you might drive an unusually high amount during your personal time. The more time you spend driving your vehicle, the higher the possibility that you might be involved in an accident.
